What is the purpose of the plastic surround that comes taped to the speaker? I am wondering is this supposed to be left on the speaker or removed after install?

That "plastic surround" plays as a protection for the speaker from packaging and shipping hazards and you can remove that plastic.


Do these speakers come with covers?

No, these speakers do not have a cover.


How do these hold up to bass with high volume?

They do a great job so long as you have the correct power amp. I'm happy with them.
